The National Running Show 2019

On Saturday just gone, I took a trip to The National Exhibition Centre (N.E.C) in Birmingham to the National Running Show 2019. I had been looking forward to this, and there seemed to be more exhibitors than last year’s inaugural show.  There were a wide variety of exhibitors ranging from running shoe and apparel brands, technology, equipment, accessories, nutrition and more.  Also, as with last year, the show was packed full of inspiring speakers. These included Olympic champions, world record holders, endurance runners, and others who have achieved amazing feats through running. Not bad at all for a show which was free entry with a promotional ticket!

In comparison to the previous year, it felt like there were more brands showcasing their products. It would have been nice for some of the big events/races to be present. Aside from the consumer goods brands, quite a few online and/or app brands were raising awareness of their products and services. As I walked around the show, lots of exhibitors had spin wheels where you could win prizes. I took part and had a turn on a few. It seemed that I was having a run of luck and won a free entry to a race, a pair of insoles, and a pair of headphones.

I also managed to pick up a six-month subscription to Runners World magazine for £16 and a free Camelbak Hydration System, worth £30, which wasn’t to be sneezed at.  Although there were some fairly attractive deals, I do think there could have been some better bargains on running shoes. We all know shoes are probably one of the most expensive items we always need to purchase.

I thoroughly enjoyed this year’s show. It was great to be in close proximity to some very inspiring runners and meet founders of brands, such as RUNR and Racecheck and others. I will be returning next year.
